Who we are, what we do, and why it matters.
ACE (AI Competency Excellence) is the AI literacy initiative of IAMS ATOMS. Our goal is to enable every member of the Institute of Atomic and Molecular Sciences, Academia Sinica — whether researcher, postdoc, graduate student, or administrative staff — to use AI tools safely and correctly, focusing their time on research that truly matters rather than trial and error.
The rapid development of AI tools brings both opportunities and risks. ACE is not about making everyone an AI expert — it's about building the right mindset: knowing what AI can and cannot do, how to choose tools, and how to verify AI outputs.
All IAMS personnel: researchers, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and administrative staff.
No technical background required.
Workshops held every two weeks, approximately 60–90 minutes each, combining lecture and hands-on practice. Videos are available for replay after each session.
Workshops are conducted primarily in Mandarin Chinese, with English technical terms included. This website is available in both Chinese and English.
Build the right foundational understanding: what LLMs are, the hallucination problem, how to verify outputs, and journal policies on AI use.
Choose the right tool based on data sensitivity and purpose — free tiers, enterprise plans, and local models each suit different scenarios.
Learn how to communicate with AI so it truly helps you: clearly describe tasks, provide context, and iteratively refine outputs.
